Both Are Ripe and Ready This Week
Right now — late July — is the sweetest stretch of the stone fruit season at Fisher's Fruit Farm near Rochester. Peaches and nectarines are both fully ripe and available for pick-your-own. The fruit comes off the tree with almost no resistance when it's ready, the sugar is at its highest, and the texture is firm enough to hold up without being hard. This window happens once a year and it does not stay open for long. If peaches have been on your list all summer, the time is now.
