If you've been waiting all year for Honeycrisp, this is your week. Rochester-area apple picking is in full swing at Fisher's Fruit Farm in Brockport, and Honeycrisp is at peak right now — crisp, sweet, and pulling clean from the branch. That snap when you bite into a Honeycrisp that just came off the tree is something no grocery store can replicate. Pick-your-own pricing is $14 per 8-quart bag or $40 per bushel. Along with Honeycrisp, Gala, Macoun, and Empire are also open and picking well this week. Honeycrisp has one of the tightest picking windows of any variety we grow. When it's right, it's right — and a week later, the apples that were on the tree start to soften and lose that signature crunch. We've been growing apples on this farm since 1973, and every year the Honeycrisp run feels shorter than people expect. If you've been meaning to come out this fall, this is the week to move it to the top of the list. Empire and Golden Delicious are also filling out nicely and will extend into later September for those who want to spread their visits across the season.
