Cherry Season Is Winding Down

Cherries have had a great run at Fisher's Fruit & Christmas Tree Farm, 467 Euler Road in Brockport, but every crop has its window. As the sweet Black Pearl and Black York trees and the tart Montmorency rows finish up over the coming days, our attention turns to what's next. If cherry picking is on your list, the time to come is now — and if you missed them this year, the good news is that peaches and nectarines are right behind them.

Peaches and Nectarines Are Coming Next

After cherries, the next stone fruit to ripen at our Brockport farm is peaches and nectarines. These typically come on in July, with the earliest varieties leading the way and later ones stretching the season for weeks. Peaches and nectarines near Rochester are a short summer pleasure — picked ripe off the tree, they're a completely different fruit than what spends a week in a shipping truck. We'll let customers know the moment they're ready to pick.

The Varieties We Grow

Fisher's grows a deep lineup of peaches — RedHaven and Early RedHaven, Canadian Harmony, Cresthaven, Catherina, and more — which means the season rolls from earlier ripening trees to later ones instead of all at once. On the nectarine side, look for Nectafest and Sunglo. Spreading varieties out like this is how a family farm keeps fresh peaches and nectarines available through much of July rather than for a single short burst.

Why Tree-Ripened Stone Fruit Is Worth the Wait

Peaches and nectarines are at their best when they ripen fully on the tree. Picked too early for long-distance shipping, they never develop the sugar and juice that make summer stone fruit special. Pick-your-own at Fisher's means you choose the fruit at the exact ripeness you want — soft and dripping for eating over the sink, or a touch firmer for grilling and baking. That control over ripeness is the whole reason to pick your own near Rochester.

Start Planning Your July Visit

If you came for cherries, plan a return trip for peaches and nectarines in July. Picking is free at Fisher's — you only pay for what you carry out — so it's an easy outing to build a summer tradition around. We're family-run, with no ticketing and no reservations: just pull in, grab a basket, and we'll point you to the trees picking best that day. Leashed dogs are welcome and the kids always have a great time in the rows.

Weather Will Have the Final Say

Fruit does not ripen by the calendar alone. Weather, sunshine, rain, cool nights, and spring growing conditions can all affect when cherries, peaches, nectarines, and apples are ready. Fisher's Fruit will keep customers updated as each crop becomes ready to pick. A warm stretch can pull the first peaches forward, while a cool, wet week can push them back, so treat any July timing as a best estimate rather than a fixed date.

Check Conditions Before You Drive Out

Before you make the trip from Rochester or anywhere across Monroe County, take 30 seconds to check our current picking conditions page — it reflects the actual state of the orchard so your visit lands on the right day. You can also learn more about our peaches and nectarines, and the farm blog will cover each crop as it gets close, right through to apple season this fall. We hope to see you in the rows soon.
